There are many children’s books handling the theme of disability. They may have been reviewed individually but not as a whole. This is the first of its kind to capture them from the angle of literature history. It was not easy to trace all the records, but the author refers to all major titles in this first chronicle of disability in children’s literature from the late 19th century until today.
Ushio Hasegawa, born in 1936 in Tokyo, graduated from Mitaka Part-Time High School of Tokyo. While working for the library of International Christian University, he acquired the bachelor of arts degree from Hosei University in 1969. He has been engaged in children’s literature as a critic and a researcher. |
